Artist Biography
Susan Reiter, BA, B.Ed., is an artist in Kanata, Ontario, originally from Moncton, New Brunswick. A University of New Brunswick graduate, she has painted for more than 30 years and draws enduring inspiration from the landscapes and seascapes of Atlantic Canada.
Working in acrylics, oils, watercolours, and mixed media, Susan’s primary passion is birds and wildlife, with water scenes from her Maritime upbringing remaining a steady influence. Her work emphasizes detailed realism—accurate anatomy, delicate plumage, and nuanced light and reflection—while she also explores abstract compositions to expand color, texture, and compositional possibilities.
For over 20 years, Susan has taught art from her home studio, instructing adults and children in foundational techniques and material-specific methods. Her classes stress observation, technical skill, and the development of a personal visual language; students value her patient, practice-focused teaching and practical studio insights.
An active member of several Ottawa-area art societies, Susan exhibits in local galleries and is collected internationally.
