Biography
Jan, a longtime painter originally from northern Ontario, has always been drawn to the sights, sounds, and scents of nature. Each of her paintings represents a moment of connectedness with nature and its abundant energy. Her manipulation of shape, shadow, light, and colour is an attempt to capture the soul of these magical experiences.
Her work is characterized by luminous colour, expressive brushwork, and a strong sense of atmosphere. Landscapes and waterscapes are recurring subjects, inspired by northern forests, shorelines, and quiet moments of reflection.
Jan is a member of Arteast Ottawa, Art in the Neighbourhood, and Art Lending Ottawa.
Artist Statement
While travelling and exploring, I take thousands of photos, soaking up nature’s splendor. When I paint from these photos, I use more vibrant colours and play with the light to capture the feeling of the moment that photos simply miss.
