Posy Bennett

Oil

Biography

Posy Bennett is a self-taught oil landscape artist based in Kanata, Ontario. Her work explores light, atmosphere, and the quiet emotional resonance of natural spaces, with a focus on creating serene, immersive environments.

Drawing inspiration from her time spent connecting with nature—both close to home and further afield—her paintings are rooted in lived experience rather than a single location. While much of her work reflects the landscapes of the Ottawa region, her subject matter is shaped by wherever she finds moments of stillness and connection.

Her work invites viewers to slow down and settle into a sense of calm presence.

Posy has exhibited at numerous art shows and festivals throughout Ottawa and surrounding communities. Her work is currently on display at the Kanata Civic Art Gallery. She is a member of the West Carleton Arts Society, Arts Carleton Place, and the Merrickville Artists Guild.

Artist Statement

Painting is where I find stillness. My work is rooted in a deep connection to the quiet, restorative moments found in nature—those fleeting spaces where light softens, water settles, and the world feels gently held. Through landscape, I seek to create more than a place; I aim to offer a sense of pause. A place to breathe.

Working in oil allows me to lean into richness and depth, often pushing colour and light beyond what is seen, toward what is felt. My paintings are not exact representations, but emotional landscapes—spaces shaped by memory, presence, and the search for calm.

Living with anxiety and depression has made that sense of calm something I actively seek and cultivate. Painting has become both a practice and a refuge, and through it, I hope to create work that resonates in a quiet, personal way—offering warmth, comfort, and a moment of stillness to those who spend time with it.
