Our Mission

Art Lending of Ottawa (ALO) was established in 1970 as a not-for-profit artists’ cooperative in the National Capital Region. We are dedicated to making accessible, to our clientele, high-quality original art produced by local, visual artists, who have been successfully juried into the organization.  We facilitate rental of their art, lease-to-purchase opportunities, and sales, all at affordable prices.

Rental & Sales

Rental is based on the value of each article.  Artwork may be rented and, if bought, the rental payment(s) can be used toward the purchase price. The monthly rental rates vs the purchase price are listed here.

ALO is exempt from collecting HST.  If you’re buying, the price posted on an article is what you’ll pay.

Become a New Artist-Member

New artists are selected by a jury normally once each year.  If you are a local artist living within or near the National Capital Region, apply to become an Art Lending member.  Our next annual jury will be Spring 2020.  Artist application submission dates for the Spring 2020 jury will be announced on this website by early March 2020.

See Jury Details for more information.

Become a Borrowing-Member

By enrolling at no cost, you will be entitled to lease and purchase original works of art through ALO.

See Borrowers for more information.

Become a Non-Artist Volunteer

Each ALO event requires the assistance of numerous volunteers over several shifts between 8:30am and 4:30pm.  If you wish to join the Art Lending Volunteer Team, please contact us.   We have many non-artist volunteers who simply enjoy being surrounded by fine art and artists in a vibrant art organization.
