I have tried to capture colour and textures from my surroundings as the focus of my mosaic work. The hot orange and azure blue from the heat of an Australian desert and the deep burgundy and chartreuse of autumn on an Ottawa Valley lake tell vastly different stories. Their unifying factor is the boldness and juxtaposition of colour. The bounty in nature influences my work and has become part of the background as well. A collection of stones, beach glass and wood from my travels are incorporated every day into mosaics - they tell my modern story. I don't feel bound to the traditional methods of mosaic, rather a layered approach with paper, wood, found items, glass, beads and tile.
