for the information of applicants

Artists interested in participating in ALO’s art-lending initiative must apply to be successfully juried into the organization.  The jurying process normally occurs once each year, in the spring.

Artist applications for the Spring 2017 jury have been received.  Jury results will be forwarded to the artists in early May 2017.  New artist members can display their art beginning at the 02 September 2017 art show.  Note, however, successful new artists may be placed on a prioritized waiting list if ALO membership exceeds the ALO forty (40) active artist membership limit.

Artists can submit applications for Art Lending of Ottawa membership at our next jury in Spring 2018.  More details with the submission date will be provided here later.

Before applying, interested artists should read Become an Artist-MemberContract with the Artist, and the Hanging & Framing Criteria.  These conditions must be clearly understood.  Also available for reference is a basic outline of the Jurying Criteria to be used.

To apply, an artist must submit to Art Lending of Ottawa:

  • a completed Artist’s Application form,
  • a Biography (one page maximum).
  • 5 digital images (jpg format, less than 1 megabyte, 300dpi) of 5 original works (total images: 5).  These may be e-mailed to ALO, at the e-address below OR sent by post using a CD-ROM or flash-drive, to the postal address below.
  • a $25 non-refundable jurying fee (cheque payable to Art Lending of Ottawa).

E-mail must be sent to:

Post must be mailed to:       Art Lending of Ottawa,
                                              229 Centrepointe Drive,
                                              Ottawa, ON   K2G 5L5 .

If questions arise, applicants will be contacted and may be asked by the jury to present a number of original works.  Paintings and photographs must be fully framed and ready to hang.  Applicants are reminded that their works must be durable, to withstand handling by numerous people, during the jurying process.

Candidates will be informed of their success, after jury selection.

If desired, unsuccessful candidates will be given a verbal critique as to why their work was not accepted by ALO.

The decisions of the ALO Jury will be final, on all matters pertaining to this process.  There will be no opportunity for appeals.

Successful Spring-juried artists become active ALO members on September 1, if the annual $125 membership fee has been paid.  Membership renewal fees ($125) paid annually, are due with the start of the new fiscal year (September 1 – August 31).
